TREAD BELT ALIGNMENT, TENSIONING, AND MAINTENANCE

It is very important that your new walking belt be kept in proper alignment and tension!

ALL WARRANTIES WILL BE VOID IF THE BELT IS DAMAGED DUE TO IMPROPER ALIGNMENT AND/OR NEGLECTING TO ALIGN!
Specific details may vary according to brand and model. If you have any questions, contact an Intermountain Gym Repair technician at 801-566-4290 (have your brand and model # ready).

1) Verify that your floor is level: place a level on the floor at the treadmill's location. Test for levelness from side to side. If the floor is out of level AT ALL, the treadmill must be shimmed properly, or moved to another location.

2) Verify the treadmill is level: with the treadmill at it's permanent location, place a level on the treadmill and verify that it is level side to side. Most treadmills have leveling feet which can be adjusted to compensate for an un-level floor or warped frame. Adjust leveling feet as needed.

3) Adjust belt alignment: locate the two bolts at the rear of the frame which bolt through either end of the rear roller. Place your wrench on the left hand bolt (left & right, front & rear are from your perspective as you're walking on the treadmill). With the belt running at two miles per hour, turn the wrench 1/4 turn in the direction you need the belt to move (clockwise to move the belt to the right, counterclockwise to move the belt to the left). Give the belt a few minutes to creep over. Continue to turn the wrench (no more than 1/4 turn at a time) to center the belt. When belt appears centered, slowly increase the speed, making fine adjustments to keep the belt centered, until the belt is running at full speed and is perfectly centered.

4) Verify alignment: have someone walk on the belt and watch for lateral movement. Make any necessary final adjustments. If the belt will not stay aligned while walking on it, check the floor for levelness.

5) Adjust belt tension: Do this only if the belt feels like it is slipping! While walking on the belt at 3 mph, hold onto the handrails and plant your foot down hard with a slightly forward motion to try to make the belt slip. If a slip or hesitation is felt, adjust both roller bolts 1/4 turn clockwise evenly, and try the foot plant test again. Keep adjusting both bolts no more than 1/4 turn at a time until the belt stops slipping. Do not over tighten or belt will be damaged!

6) Keep belt clean: Prior to each use wipe belt, deck and motor cover with a damp cloth to remove dust; weekly sweep or vacuum the floor underneath the treadmill; monthly wipe the deck under the belt; as required by mfg. Lubricate or wax the deck in accordance with the manufacturers instructions, and with approved lubricants only.
